If you really want to create an illusion of magic with your letters from Santa, North Pole postmarks can add the final touch of Santa authenticity. Fortunately, they’re free and easy to get from the US Postal Service.
To get a special Santa Claus postmark from North Pole Alaska, you simply need to send your letters to the North Pole and ask for the postmark. Here’s how.
After you create your letters from Santa, place them in envelopes and stamp and address them, as you would for any normal mail. Now take THOSE envelopes and place them inside a larger envelope with enough postage to cover the weight of the contents. Then adress the outer envelope to:
North Pole Christmas Cancellation
4141 Postmark Drive
Anchorage, AK 99530-99998
When the big envelope arrives in Alaska, the postal staff will see the “North Pole Christmas Cancellation” address, open the package, take out any envelopes inside, and affix the special Santa North Pole postmark to the inner envelopes. Then they’ll deliver the mail.
To make sure your letters from Santa get to the North Pole and back to their destination before Christmas, you should send your package by the end of the first week of December. This should ensure your letters will arrive at the North Pole by December 15. That is the last day the post office guarantees delivery before Christmas for regular first class mail. If your letters won’t make it to the North Pole before December 15, you’ll need to affix Priority Mail or Overnight Mail stamps to the inner envelopes to make sure your letters from Santa Claus arrive on time.
