How does Santa Claus get into your house? Why, he comes down the chimney, of course.
But what if you don’t have a chimney?
Well, if this happens, Santa Claus must use a key like the rest of us. But he can’t carry a key for every house in the world on his sleigh because that would just get too heavy.
And he wouldn’t want all of us to leave our real house keys under the doormat on Christmas Eve because then burglars would know where and when to look.
So Santa invented a simple method of getting into houses that don’t have a chimney. All you have to do is leave out a key (any old key will do, but he really likes the antique skeleton type) and attach a note to it so Santa knows he’s got the right one. You can attach a ribbon and hang the key around the doorknob or leave it under the doormat, in the mailbox or anywhere near the front door.
Santa has a special detector designed to find these special keys. Once he finds one, he simply sprinkles it with magic dust, pops it in the lock, and the door springs right open so he can deliver gifts and then be on his way to the next house.
